Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times late to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
